National Occupational Standards In Volunteer Management
and Investing in Volunteers

There are two important sets of standards in Volunteer Management. The National Occupational Standards are standards against which individual Volunteer Managers can assess themselves. The IiV are standards against which a volunteer involving organisation can assess itself.

Investing in Volunteers

Our Volunteer Management Professional Training Programme is cross referenced to the 10 IiV standards. This means that if your organisation is seeking IiV accreditation you will be able to identify which of our courses will most help you.

You can find more information from the IiV web site by clicking here.

National Occupational Standards

The UK Workforce Hub (previously VSNTO) is one of a network of National Training Organisations (NTOs), recognised by government. In June 2002 they produced a report on volunteer management standards that highlights the management competencies needed for effective management of volunteers. These were ratified during January 2005 and published as the Management Of Volunteers National Occupational Standards (NOS).

At AM Training we have created the Volunteer Management Professional Training Programme around these standards.

The NOS give the following volunteer manager key purpose statement:

Enable volunteers to make their full contribution to the organisation's goals whilst developing their own skills and interests.

They break down all aspects of volunteer management into five key units, then break each unit down into individual competencies (elements).

How To Identify Your Training and Development Needs

We have created a Volunteer Management Skills Self Assessment. This self assessment utilises the key skills and competences (elements) detailed in the Management Of Volunteers National Occupational Standards (NOS)

The self assessmment enables those who manage volunteers to clarify their strengths and identify training and development needs. Each module in our Core Skills Programme is referenced to NOS. This enables those who manage volunteers to easily identify which of our Core Skills Programme modules are most relevant to their training and development needs.
