What is PPI (Patient and Public Involvement)?

This government policy requires that all sections of the NHS consult patients and public about the way in which health services are delivered so that they can be better tailored to service users' needs. The process of engaging with people can be done in a variety of ways, for example:

  • Interview panels
  • Service development
  • Gaps in services
  • Patient Information
  • Research
  • Support Groups
  • Health Promotion

What is the target group for this training?

The course is designed for any public facing staff working in the NHS or services provided through the NHS working in partnership with other agencies. The course can be delivered to mixed groups of people working at different levels and in different departments, or to people delivering specific services.

What is the format and style of the course delivery?

The course is delivered as a workshop with short lectures and a PowerPoint presentation; vignettes performed by actors followed by group discussion; small group exercises and action planning.

How many people does the course cater for?

We can cater for groups of up to 25 people providing there is enough room for people to move around and work in small groups. The venue may either be on health service premises or a suitable local hotel/conference venue.

We provide master copies of handouts to be photocopied for all participants. Venue booking is the responsibility of the commissioning agent.
