Middle-Management For Teachers

This course is available to local education authorities and provides in-house training for teaching staff who are, or hope to become, middle managers or team leaders. The course is 5 days in total, normally taught over a three-month period in two 2-day units, and one 1-day unit.

 

Course Aims

  1. To provide participants with the basic skills and underpinning knowledge to manage their staff effectively
  2. To offer participants an opportunity to evaluate their current level of skills with regard to managing people
  3. To offer participants an opportunity for personal growth and development with reference to personnel management skills
  4. To help participants identify and overcome blocks to their learning and personal development
  5. To offer participants conceptual frameworks within which to locate their managerial practice
  6. To help participants develop the skills of reflective practice

Learning objectives

Upon completion, participants will:

  1. Have an understanding of what the core skills for managing people are
  2. Have improved their competence in these skills
  3. Have identified areas for further development
  4. Have a grasp of theories and concepts of relevance in managing people and be able to discuss and critically evaluate these
  5. Be able to reflect upon their practice, be responsive to feedback, identify areas for further development, and set goals for themselves in these areas
